Day 12 of Love

February 14, 2012

It’s nearly impossible to describe how much we love Gage. His little chubby legs that run to the back door as fast as they can, knowing Dada is home. The exaggerated way he blows a kiss. How he begs for one more song to be sung at bedtime. It’s ALL of these things and more that don’t even measure up to a smidgen of love we have for him.

It seemed only logical to devote one day in celebration of the love we share for our son.

In preparation, Ryan and I sat down together with paper and pen to jot down the littlest things we love about our munchkin. The time ticked away chuckling about the little things that make him, uniquely him.

We decided even though it’s day 12 we’d still do 14 love notes attached to 14 balloons.

The menu was prepared, notes were written, and the guest bedroom decorated. All that was missing was our Little Mister.

We took our time eating and enjoying all the little moments (yes, even spilt juice & bacon kabobs being stolen by LuLu).

And then it was time to read him the notes. At such a young age, it’s debatable whether or not he understood what we were trying to tell him. But you know what? Whether or not he comprehended the words, he certainly felt the love behind them.

This special Valentine’s breakfast WILL become a yearly tradition in our home. Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romantic love; but also expressed for the little ones we love too.

And to think, next year it’ll be shared with not one Little Mister, but TWO! Should be twice the fun! xo

Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your sweethearts!

ok, your breakfast looks so yummy! Bacon kabobs?! Do tell me more. I hope you share the recipes. This is such a sweet idea. Happy Valentine’s Day!

The bacon? Kinda came up with that on a whim… basically it’s 2 pieces of folded bacon (folded like a fan) and then skewered on wooden skewers. Place on a wired rack in a cold oven. Turn oven onto 400 and back for 20 minutes or until desired doneness. Remove and while bacon is still warm, brush on maple syrup. Mmm! They were delish!

You are totally giving Martha Stewart a run for her money, girl. Happy Valentine’s Day to your Family!

    • missy February 15, 2012 at 2:27 pm

Oh I could only hope to be half as talented as Martha Stewart one day. You know, it is one of my dreams to be a guest on her show… It’s a long shot; but realities start as dreams. Thank you for the HUGE compliment! xo

    My heart just melted 🙂

  • Anna @ The Guiltless Life February 14, 2012 at 3:52 pm

Aw you guys are awesome parents! That’s such a sweet gesture and I’m sure that even if he didn’t understand the individual words now he will one day, and it will mean so much to him!

  • DevonRiesenberg February 14, 2012 at 4:08 pm

Did you make the strawberry stuffed French toast? It looks divine 🙂

I agree with Rebecca…you have a calling to be the next Martha 😉

    • missy February 15, 2012 at 2:30 pm

Yes, it’s my own recipe. I absolutely LOVE the french toast served at Brio and wanted it in comfy of our own home. Obviously I don’t have the recipe and wanted the challenge of trying to make my own rendition. Everyone was beyond happy with the outcome. Really looking forward to sharing it with all of you! xo

    Happy Vday!

And this is such a cute idea. I have no idea why I did not think of it. I completely agree with dedicating this day to our little man instead of just focusing on both my husby and I. Love this idea!

  • Courtney February 14, 2012 at 5:19 pm

What a lucky little boy! I’m sure he will treasure this when he gets older.

  • Amy Morris February 14, 2012 at 7:43 pm

So do you plan on tying both notes for the boys to one balloon or one balloon per note? So does each child get 14 of their own? I am picturing a room FULL of balloons by the time all the children arrive. I think this is such a great idea and am just wondering. Way to make the day special…you rock cuz!

    • missy February 15, 2012 at 2:33 pm

We’re planning on attaching 2 notes to each balloon, so they each receive 14 notes. It really is something I want the kids to remember when they’re older and hopefully incorporate into their own families! xo

Very cute! I just started following your blog. Love it! Very inspirational to us Mom’s who want to be a great Mom but “stay cute”. You just prove you can do it all without completely loosing yourself 🙂 Anyway, I was wondering where you got your milk bottle glasses and bottles? I notice you use them a lot. Luv Luv.

Where did you get those cute glass bottles with the red and white straws??

  • Janet March 23, 2012 at 5:22 pm

I was reading your spring cleaning post and decided our bedroom is in serious need of a new spring duvet. The bedding in these photos is gorgeous! where are they from? maybe the store will have something similar this season…thanks!!!

    • missy March 23, 2012 at 5:37 pm

The blue comforter (looks like a denim floral) and white accent pillows are from TJMaxx. The red striped duvet and red floral pillows are Pottery Barn. This is actually our guest bedroom. The linens we have on our bed for spring are very similar to the ones pictured in the spring cleaning post. In fact, they’re from Target! We have a heirloom quilt at the foot of the bed with coordinating pillows.
