“At home, I serve the kind of food I know the story behind.”
-Michael Pollen

THE DIRTY DOZEN... Meaning those foods that are most contaminated… meaning the ones that are essential {if you’re not going to buy anything else organic}… Meaning… You’ll soon know the list {yes, take notes}… so that means you’ll know better… meaning… make the change from generic to organic.

Peaches
Apples
Sweet Bell Peppers
Celery
Nectarines
Strawberries
Cherries
Pears
Grapes
Spinach
Lettuce
Potatoes

I’d also add meat & dairy to that list of dirty scoundrels… Why? Watch the documentary, Food Inc.

So why my love obsession w/organic? I’ve got one body. It’s my responsibility to take care of it. I’ve also got more than just my body to worry about… but also my familys’ bodies. I look at it as preventative medicine. Organic helps me with these pursuits. I need the megaphone to explain the rest of my organic obnoxiousness… but I’ll save that for a later date. Small baby steps, friendlies.

Stop.It.Now! My head is beginning to swell! Thank you, doll face!

SO true! Food Inc completely changed the way I grocery shop! It still amazes me that it is legal to put all of these crazy contaminants in our food.

And I think your the only person on earth that looks cute in those kind of hats!! 🙂

I grew up in CO where health is a major push. I grew up healthy… moved away… to a place where Organic was thought of a flavor. Should’ve seen the look when I asked the butcher for organic meat, “Uh, Miss? You lookin for Tyson chicken?” They’d never heard of organic. Thankfully peeps are starting to catch on! And that is like the biggest compliment. EVER. I love hats but never know if I’m sportin’ ’em right. Thx, sweetie.

I loved the blog! very cute!

    • missy May 4, 2011 at 6:21 pm

Thank you for the tee hee’s {heart giggles}… very flattered. 😉

I’m loving those cuffed pants and the stripes. I’ve been looking for a good pair of cuffed jeans and sadly I can’t fit into any unless I buy a bigger size or wear them with my belly band.

    • missy May 4, 2011 at 6:18 pm

oh sister! I hear you about squeezing into jeans let alone skinnys when preggers. Pretty much wore the only pair I could weasel into over and over and over… until I wanted to burn them. Don’tcha worry. You’ll be back into them before too long!

I love that you combined fashion and the list of the dirtiest produce items in one post…that’s my kind of girl! I have been meaning to print out that list and laminate and put in my wallet so I don’t forget and this is a good reminder. Outfit is ADORABLE also!! Could you be any cuter, seriously?!?

    • missy May 4, 2011 at 6:21 pm

I can picture it now… “Uh, Ma’am? Is that a laminated grocery list? You buy the same thing over each week to the point that lamination-station is mere necessity? Oh I see. It’s your dirdy duzen list. Well now… that’s totally normal.” Laminating is actually a good idea. Wanna market a cute version together? Haha! Sell it on etsy er sumthin?

  • Niki May 4, 2011 at 9:04 pm

I think that’s a super cheeky idea!! Lets do it! Heck, even just a cute down-loadable pdf would be fun…with little illustrations of the veggies! The reverse side could have the 10 safest fruits & veggies. I think we may have something here:)

Thanks for talking about organic foods & the documentary “Food Inc.” This is something that I am passionate about too!!! Since Zach & I have made the switch, I feel soo much better (more vibrant, alive, happy & healthy!) What we consume REALLY effects us & I love sharing this knowledge 🙂 Keep preaching my friend …. People will listen ‘cuz you’re so darn cute!

    • missy May 7, 2011 at 12:09 pm

I feel the strong urge slash push to share those things strong in my heart. I’m glad it was well received! Makes sense you and I would be on the same page! Same fashion sense… obviously we’d make the same food choices too! Miss you more than words! Saw a Diners, Drive-In’s, & Dives last night that was featured in Hawaii. Made me want to eat at this fish joint with you!

    Looking fly as always!
No red meat has been consumed by myself or Aubrey since I watched the documentry 4 months ago. Need to get cason on board too but he loves a red robin burger! If he’d only give a gardenburger a try… Yumminess!!

    • missy May 7, 2011 at 12:11 pm

Make those chicken sausage & turkey meatballs for your spaghetti next time. They’re Husby’s favorite! He doesn’t miss the red meat at all. Now don’t get me wrong… I have to have my red meat too {but sparingly & always organic}. It’s amazing how much better organic tastes as well. Weird. Hmm… maybe I should try making a homemade version of a veggie burger, no?

Super cute outfit! Like the cardigan with the shirt! And those hats are so fun to wear! 🙂 And yes people here in CO are super into Whole Foods and all of that fun stuff!
