Fun

DIY Safari

May 18, 2011

Do you ever feel like you’re stuck in ruts? Typical Saturdays usually involve errands, yard work, studying, or even worse… Wasting away a perfectly unplanned day! We decided this Saturday would be different. We dropped everything & went on an adventure! Who knew a pretty legit safari’ish experience would only be 45 min away? Uh yeah. This state not only features some of the Nation’s most beautiful beaches but also WILD drive-at-your-own-risk SAFARI adventures. And maybe it’s bc this place is out in the boonies & there’s no quote-unquote safety regulations or something – but you can feed the furries while they ambush your car! I think I vaguely remember seeing a 2X2 weathered piece of wood etched with, “You’re responsible for lost or stolen fingers.”

A pushy ostrich stuck his long neck where it didn’t belong. A’hem… right through Husby’s window! The poor sucker {the bird, not loverbuns} almost got his head guillotined by a powered winder. I don’t think I’ve seen him fumble to roll up a window so fast! Crazy wild animals + our little family + chucking food at them to stay away = the most fun we’ve had in a loong time! Even a hairy llama tried to show his new love for Bubba with a slobbery tongue sliding across his side of the car, as we drove passed {this would explain Baby’s night whimpers every night this week}. The Zebras were more our style… waiting politely until we held out our hands…

And lets not forget the camels, goats, pot belly piglets, buffalo, yaks, and not to mention giraffes! Yeah, all that feeding made us a bit hungry ourselves! We hit up what the locals said was the best dive in town. Who knew chili, slaw, and mustard would mesh together so well on a hotdog? Hot diggity!

PSST! Are you slightly confused as to how I fed that stunning giraffe? It took mad skills {wink wink}. I popped up through the sun roof, stood on my tippy-toesies, and Mr. G did the hard part… bent waaay down to get the grub!

Those pictures are crazy good! The colors are amazing! Fun day:-)

Thanks so much! The animals were the best models a photographer could ask for!

Was that at Lazy 5 Ranch Miss? That place is a hoot. We haven’t been in a while and I’ve been thinking we should go. I like the hay ride because then your car isn’t subject to animal doings. Haha. Good times. I miss having free Saturday’s. Now it’s filled with soccer. 🙂

Yep! Hoot is a spankin’ understatement! We were freaking out the whole time! It was beyond fun! Maybe next time we should go together!

This is the cutest blog! I am about to pop out a little boy in August! Love all your fashion, and organic food tips, and all of Bubba’s clothing. Do you have pictures from when you were pregnant? I’d love to see your maternity style!

Grace! Jeepers… all the compliments… you’re so generous in your praise! Thank you! I bet your one smokin’ lil’ prego Mama! I do have some pics from pregnancy. Maybe I should do a post on maternity style essentials? Hmm… Hope pregnancy is going well 🙂 Glad you found us! xo

I love my FFE (Favorite Family Ever)! These shots are amazing! I’ll definitely have to take Leo next time he’s around. I wonder if they would let me bring a giraffe home… Bubba must have one!

    • missy May 19, 2011 at 5:48 pm

Yeah, the giraffe prob wouldn’t fit in the back yard, Mags. But hey… maybe one day in our vacay home in Africa, right? haha

Your family it the epitome of cuteness!! As a girl new to the cute modest girl lifestyle I am having a hard time finding good basics to have as staples for my closet. Your always looking so cute. Any suggestions?

I’ve got an upcoming post that will feature summer essentials. I’ll make sure to add how to keep summer modest. 😉

I’d have to say my main “modest” staples are layering pieces (cardigans, snug basic t’s and cami’s).

Great pictures! The safari looked really fun and a little scary. I want to do something fun like that with my little fam this weekend!

Have a blast! I’d suggest maybe wearing gloves? I would’ve felt more secure knowing the furries would have an extra layer to get through before they reached skin!
