Waiting for Storms to Cease

November 3, 2011

[picture taken October 16th, still in icu]

It’s been awhile since I last updated about Morgan. Partially it’s because his status has stayed relatively the same. To catch up go HERE and HERE.

We left off with Morgan getting off medications, machines, and the coma. All of that took place and it seemed like improvements were slowly coming, little by little.

Shortly after that update, Morgan started having “storms” the body’s fight or flight reponse resulting in a seizure like state. These storms could rage for hours on end. When Morgan wasn’t fighting storms he was sleeping.

Doctors are completely perplexed as to why Morgan’s body was responding this way. Some said it was the brain’s attempt to continue to heal itself. That explanation gave some hope that Morgan was continuing to fight in the right direction. The storms continued while doctors tried medications to try and lessen the episodes; but nothing seemed to provide adequate relief. As his parents and family, all anyone could do was watch helplessly and try to let Morgan know they were near.

This cycle of storms and sleep has continued for a couple of weeks now and still continues. As of Tuesday, Morgan was transferred out of the icu into a hospice center still on the hospital’s campus. Spending 5 weeks in the icu is costly when doctors are no longer able to provide further assistance until Morgan progresses. The relocation is better suited for providing a more comfortable living environment for Morgan and his family.

Just yesterday, I talked with Jenedy as she sat in the sun on the patio connected to Morgan’s room. She was in good spirits with a very optimistic outlook accepting each new day with resolve to push forward. Her remarkable strength and faith are nothing short of astounding. Truly it is an honor to call her my friend.

Just as we were about to hang up the phone, I asked if there was anything she’d like me to share with everyone. She gave me a scripture reference (Mosiah 24: 12-15) that reads,

12 And Alma and his people did not raise their voices to the Lord their God, but did pour out their hearts to him; and he did know the thoughts of their hearts.

13 And it came to pass that the voice of the Lord came to them in their afflictions, saying: Lift up your heads and be of good comfort, for I know of the covenant which ye have made unto me; and I will covenant with my people and deliver them out of bondage.

14 And I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs, even while you are in bondage; and this will I do that ye may stand as witnesses for me hereafter, and that ye may know of a surety that I, the Lord God, do visit my people in their afflictions.

15 And now it came to pass that the burdens which were laid upon Alma and his brethren were made light; yea, the Lord did strengthen them that they could bear up their burdens with ease, and they did submit cheerfully and with patience to all the will of the Lord.

An auction to help with the past and ongoing medical expenses will be coming soon! Stay tuned and please continue to keep their family in your thoughts and prayers.

Is there something I can offer or do for the auction? I’m all the way in Utah, but I’m happy to do whatever I can… I have some ideas. Thanks Missy. What a good friend you are to Jenedy… and I love that scripture!

I found your website through Pinterest. Reading this devastating story, my heart aches now and I have tears streaming down my face. I am a new mom and I can imagine all the pain, actually I can’t even imagine what they’ve been through. My prayers and positive thoughts are with them for sure. Little Morgan is a fighter and he will soon be jumping up and down again and brigthening up everybody’s lives. I am positive he will. God bless.

Still thinking about this boy. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help! I believe they are local to me. If they need help qualifying for services, I can point them in the right direction!

    In my prayers,
    Shauna
