This past week was spent vacationing on The Isle of Palms, in South Carolina. Almost all of Ryan’s family was able to join us. We rented a beach house, spent the majority of our days playing in the ocean, relaxing, exploring Charleston, and enjoying each others company.

The second night we were there, we shared dinner on the beach at sunset.

All of it was memorable β€” cousins splashing in high tide, the cool breeze, my boys throwing seashells into oncoming waves, flying kites, sharing stories, celebrating, roasting dogs and s’mores, the sunset…

A night we’ll always remember.

Always.

I love your pictures! Looks like you guys had a great time!

What is that fire stump thing? It looks so cool! and portable?

  • Paige July 16, 2013 at 1:31 pm

I was thinking of vacationing at Isle of Palms as well! Any suggestions for beach house rentals? Did you use VRBO? Beautiful pics as always, love you. I was totally going through withdrawl while you were gone LOL πŸ™‚

    • missy July 16, 2013 at 1:52 pm

Aww, you’re so sweet. Thanks for the love, Paige. I did take a few days off… and it was a nice refresher. We rented in Ocean View in Wild Dunes. It’s gated, on the beach and stunning golf course, has a community swimming pool, and very well maintained. Most houses are occupied by residents (not rentals) which made the experience even more relaxing. They are a bit pricey – but if you’re going with a group… splitting the cost makes it more manageable. There’s also a beautiful hotel within Wild Dunes that also might be a great option if you plan to go alone!

Missy! Cheers from Ohio! Your photos are so beautiful. I’m taking my family there in a few weeks. We are celebrating my premees first birthday. Any restaurant recommendations or things we must do while there? You photos have me so excited!

    Xoxo

We’ve visited Charleston several times; but have never rented a beach house. It was FABULOUS! If you’re sticking to Isle of Palms I’d recommend: The Seabiscuit Cafe for breakfast, Coconut Shrimp at Coconut Joe’s, and Poe’s Tavern. My favorite treat in Charleston is Belgian Gelato (1 scoop grapefruit sorbet with 1 scoop vanilla gelato)… nothing else like it! Explore the beach early in the morning (anytime before 8 am) to see marine life. I’ll be posting more about Charleston later this week. So excited for you to visit!

LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog! I’ve been following you for a while and LOVE it! You have so many great ideas! The blueberry biscuits are a HUGE hit at my house! Thanks for the recipe!

We’re going to the beach in few weeks and I’ve been looking for a cute new comfy oversized sweatshirt…. Can you tell me where you got yours???

    • missy July 16, 2013 at 2:17 pm

Thank you for your support! It means so much you find joy in it! The sweatshirt is linked under the first picture. It runs oversized so I bought an xs and it’s still roomy.

  • Janna July 16, 2013 at 2:15 pm

    And what size? Thanks!

Looks like you had a great vacation! Trips with family are the best! It’s nice to see families that enjoy spending time together (even if it makes me miss my fam a little more than usual!).

  • Kelsi July 16, 2013 at 4:22 pm

Did you fly or drive? How did you get Lulu out there? I’d love a post on tips for traveling with young kids AND a dog. Or a personal answer here. Whatever floats your boat πŸ™‚ And packing. I am obsessed with packing, and I have a love-hate relationship with it. I’m pretty good at it, but not without major anxiety first. Tips?

Glad y’all had such a lovely vacation! You’re making me miss South Carolina!

  • Erin July 17, 2013 at 10:22 am

We love Wild Dunes/Isle of Palms. We’ve never stayed in a house (The Village has met our needs the last six years). Good to know you can rent homes in all areas. Did you find the location (away from the coffee, beach with towels, workout area) was a drag or worth it? The next time you go into Charleston and can work in a date with the hubby, try the Ordinary. It was one of the best meals we have ever had. Ever.

  • Jackie July 17, 2013 at 10:33 am

Great photos and definitely the best vacation spot!! We were in Isle of Palms last year and at this moment we are in Kiawah. Charleston is my all time favorite city. My husband and I got married in Charleston 5 years ago and we always vacation with his whole family in and around that area. Poe’s tavern is one of my faves!! Beautiful family and beautiful photos!!

Your family is ADORABLE! I love your posts and have been following your site ever since I’ve became a stay at home mommy. Your truly an inspiration!

P.s. I know you get questions a lot, but hey it’s a compliment if anything! Where is your hat from?! I’ve been searching for one that actually looks good on and yours is so cute!!

  • Courtney July 27, 2013 at 3:35 am

And..I’m so sorry! I was talking about the hat you wore in the beach post. I accidentally posted on this one and the beach one. :/

Nice photos! You have a lovely family. Isle of Palms surely is an excellent place to spend quality time with family. The beauty of Isle of Palms wide sandy beaches makes it perfect for both adventure and leisure and provides easy route to the rich history of nearby Charleston. Isle of Palms SC real estate for the most part is comprised of second homes and investment rentals, especially in the Wild Dunes resort. Most of the vacation rentals go for $4000 – $7000 a week depending on if the house is on the oceanfront or not.
