The Diva Dish: Triple Smoothies

August 31, 2011

Friendlies? A moment of silence, please. As of this very moment I’m flying over the deep blue sea, sportin’ the eye mask to block out reading lights, conked out from benadryl and hopefully not snorting or snoring and/or drooling. Definitely not a cute way to start a vacay.

In the meantime, I’ve prepared posts so we don’t miss each other too badly. Hoping absence makes our hearts grow fonder? Also, a few of my blogging friendlies are graciously babysitting the blog for a couple of days.

Oh and did you notice our new Sponsors for September? Stay tuned for giveaways from Sienna Loves Kai and K.Slademade as well as 30% off any item (all month long) from Francesca’s Collection using the promo: Pistachio at checkout!

Be sure to keep commenting – I’ll reply to all comments when I return in a few weeks! Miss you bumloads! XO

Hi Pink Pistachio readers! My name is Ari, and I blog over at The Diva Dish

I am so grateful that Missy asked me to guest post on her blog today. I’ve secretly hinted, more like shouted and stalked her blog, begging her to move in with me and be my personal hair, makeup, and clothing stylist. Anytime you’re ready Missy…

A little about me…If I’m not secretly sucking face with a tub of hummus, I’m most likely in a corner makin’ love to something baked with chocolate.

Although, most of my time is spent enjoying my studly hubby, and my ‘all too much like her mama’ daughter Baby Boo.

And since I was blessed with such a beautiful family, I want nothing more than to keep them healthy and happy. Even if that means more to clean up along the way.

I’m talking about you hubs…

My family is all about enjoying life the healthy way. We eat a lot of plant-based foods, filled with natural, whole, fresh, and mostly organic ingredients.

My feeling is that our bodies are beautiful temples, and I want nothing more to preserve, respect, and treat my body the way that it deserves.

One of my family’s favorite ways to do that is by drinking Green Drinks.

I know the thought of this might sound repulsive, disgusting, and even off the wall bonkers, but drinking at least one green a day can really help clean out your system and give your body some banging nutrition.
Oh, and if you’re a Mama like me with picky kiddos, and even pickier hubby’s…(STILL talking to YOU hubs), then trust me when I say these are fast, fool proof, and delicious.

You hubby won’t even know what hit him! Oh…and your kiddos too.
Are you ready?

I have 3 recipes today to get you started!

Beginners Green Drink
Non-veggie lovers, this one is for you!

Ingredients:
1 C. non-dairy or organic milk
2 C. spinach
1 frozen banana (hides taste of spinach)
1 TB. chai seeds or ground flax seeds
1-2 TB. Sweetener of choice (agave, maple syrup, or honey)
Ice
Optional: vanilla protein powder, nut butter (my fav), nuts, oats, any other preferred frozen fruit, and if your daring throw in half a cucumber for sweetness.

Directions:
Blend all ingredients in a blender until smooth and creamy. Sip. Love. Repeat.

This next one is dedicated to missy since she’s vacationing away right now on a cruise. Jealous!

Tropical Green Drink
Ingredients:
½ C. fresh orange juice
½ -1 C. non-dairy milk or organic milk
1 C. spinach
1 C. kale (just leaves, no stems. Stems are yucky)
1 frozen banana
½ C. frozen mango or peaches
1 tsp. vanilla
1 TB. chai seeds or ground flax seeds
2 TB. Coconut
Ice
Optional: Sweetener of choice (agave, maple syrup, honey)

Directions:
Blend all ingredients together in blender until creamy. Sip. Love. Go on vacation.

Ok, for my last and final green drink, you may just fall in love with me.
I’m just sayin’…
How do you think I can get hubby to watch 2 hours of Bachelor Pad with me??
Well…let’s be honest, I think he secretly loves it…

Red Velvet Cake Batter Green Drink
Ingredients:
1 C. non-dairy milk, or organic milk
1 small/medium beet: peeled, steamed, and chopped
1/3 C. frozen raspberries
1 frozen banana
4 TB. cocoa powder
4-pitted dates
1 TB chai seeds or ground flax seeds
1-2 TB. sweetener of choice (agave, maple syrup, or honey)
Ice

Directions:
Blend all ingredients together until creamy. Sip. Love. Watch Bachelor Pad.

Who knew healthy could taste so…
Gosh Darn Flippin’ Delicious!

There ya have it! Don’t be afraid to pop on over to The Diva Dish and say hi! We would LOVE to have you. Just as long as you bring a tub of hummus…and a spoon!

Thanks again, Missy for giving me this opportunity! Have fun on your vacation!!

I’m ALL about throwing healthy things in a blender and whipping it up under the “smoothie” disguise! Thanks for sharing cute girl!

    • Ari August 31, 2011 at 6:26 pm

🙂 A girl after my own heart!! Nice to meet you Jenedy!

  • Anna August 31, 2011 at 5:33 pm

Missy have a great trip! And Ari, I love your blog already so I’m so glad to see this “blog collision” :). These recipes look fab. Green drinks do scare a lot of people but that’s just because eating is so much about presentation. Ignoring the colour makes a world of difference – it tastes great regardless of colour so try it people, try it!! 🙂

    • Ari August 31, 2011 at 6:27 pm

I totally agree Anna! 🙂 In a perfect world, people would LOVE to drink drinks green in color! 🙂

  • Natalie August 31, 2011 at 7:11 pm

Thanx for sharing the recipes, totally reminds me of my childhood. My mom is all about the green drinks. Looks good! I’ll have to give it a try.

Freaky, I follow 3 blogs…yours, missys, and possesionistas. How is it that you just appeared here? Destiny I tell ya!!!

  • Angelica September 9, 2011 at 3:46 pm

YUM-MO! Thanks for sharing these delicious recipes! Heading over to your blog now! 🙂

  • Anne October 5, 2011 at 8:33 pm

Thanks for these recipes- we go through phases of drinking spirulina shakes but haven’t recently and I’ve been trying to get my girls to eat more greens. We just made the tropical green drink and it was a hit! Delicious!

  • Joanne April 1, 2013 at 8:58 pm

I just made the tropical smoothie. I’ve never tried any smoothies with spinach or kale before but am trying to be healthier. This was delicious…out of this world yummy! Thanks so much!
