Seeing Stars

June 28, 2013

Chances are, if it’s a DIY there’s a story behind it. Most likely a story about how this one time (okay MOST of the time. okay I ALWAYS) want things I can’t justify going brunette for. Without salon dates, I could afford a splurge or two. But as a dish-water-blonde (which by the way is my REAL hair color) I wouldn’t feel cute in my splurges. Call me fake. I can handle it.

So basically a Wildfox Couture star tee had me at hello. I bought it (justifying it was perfect for Lady Liberty’s birthday bash). Returned it within 24 hours. Any longer and I’d be convinced of all the pointless reasons why I needed to keep her.

Target and a little paint became my affordable rebound!

    • Instructions: 1) use a brown paper bag or a piece of cardboard to place inside the tee to avoid paint seeping through to the backside. 2) make a star stamp from foam stickers (layered 3 high). 3) arrange stars in a pattern of choice – measuring may also be helpful. I alternated 4 and 3 to a row. 4) apply fabric paint to the star with a foam brush (using craft or acrylic paints – will wash out when laundered). apply a heavy layer that’s slightly messy (not evenly distributed). the irregular globes of paint help give texture and more of a distressed feel. 5) let dry 4 hours before repeating on the backside. Supplies: Tee – Mossimo at Target (in blue delta), Fabric Paint (matte glacier white) – HERE or Michael’s, Foam Star Stickers  – Michael’s

That is hilarious you might as well call me fake also because without my blonde hair I don’t feel cute either!! I went brunette and hated it so I’m glad that I’m slowly getting closer to the blonde I used to have (it takes forever)!!

Love that DIY top! Have a great weekend 🙂
    Xo,

Oh this was wonderful! Sometimes the purchase/return silliness kick-starts me!
All aces, super cute! And I completely appreciate how honestly funny and endearing you make the quirkiness in each of us!
