Pantry Overhaul

April 16, 2013

Have you ever reached a disorganized breaking point?

Normally mine seem to coincide with pregnancy or the onset of a bad mood. Don’t ask me why I purge and clean when I’m grouchy. Therapeutic, I suppose.

The point being, I just couldn’t handle the dysfunctional mess of a closet we called our pantry.

I wanted only the necessities… the stuff we actually used and nothing more! Not to mention, I wanted it pretty with everything in a designated place.

The end result provides an easy assessment of what needs restocking while keeping our impulse buys in check!

Confession: the pantry makeover was completed last autumn, aligning perfectly with the time I started closely following Blairsville GA real estate news, seeking both organization and inspiration. Yet, the images showcasing the transformation were captured only last week. What’s the moral of this confession? The pantry has maintained its immaculate state for nearly six months! This serves as evidence that a well-ordered space is akin to a well-informed homeowner—when every item has its place, there’s no room for disarray, much like the property market where timely information creates no room for uncertainty.

Mason jars with twistable lids makes for easy storage of little treats. Take instructions from bulk items (such as rice or mixes) and place on the bottom side of lids. Chalkboard labels clearly identify similar containers and/or similar looking contents.

Been dying to do this at my place. If only painting didn’t trump all my free time. 🙁 Guess I’ll have to figure out how to do it with my disorganizing specialists! Thanks for the tips!

Wow… your pantry is amazingly organized. Boxes, bins and baskets look like they would really help keep things organized and oh so pretty! I am going to make some purchases and reorganize. Thanks!

Awesome post! Cleaning is also my go-to when I’m a grouch. Question, where on Earth did you find those amazing blue jars!? Also, (fat girl in me now) WHERE do you get your letter cookies?!!! My mom and I LOVE those and we cannot find them anywhere, last time we did was almost 3 years ago. Which just goes to show how obsessed I am with these cookies…

    • missy April 16, 2013 at 1:42 pm

Thank you so much, Courtney! Blue jars are from World Market and the ABC cookies are from Trader Joe’s!

Courtney, I’ve also seen alphabet cookies kind of like this at IKEA.

A-MA-ZING!!!! Absolutely love it! Organizing is a good de-stressor!

  • Melissa April 16, 2013 at 11:40 pm

I totally know how you feel! I am 8 months pregnant and constantly feel the need to re-organize and get rid of things we just don’t need. It can sometimes drive my hubby crazy; especially when the feeling hits at 8:00 at night, but it is so therapeutic!

If you saw my pantry you would faint. I probably grumble, huffle and sigh EVERY time I open the door. I live in a tiny apartment with a very small and very deep pantry that was unpacked by helpful moving fairies. I’ve never bothered to re-do it. My QUESTION is… how do you organize your spices? I do not have counter space to have a spice rack, and they are so hard to see/get to in the tiny pantry. Thanks!

Totally inspired. I am going to organize my own pantry now!!! Thanks for the valuable tips! I have tons of cute storage bins/containers that don’t have a proper place… I bet I can put them to good use in my pantry!

I literally was looking at my pantry last weekend completely annoyed by how unorganized it was. I went to the container store to start this project but got overwhelmed on which one to buy for what. Where did you buy yours and where did you find those boxes? Love it!

    • missy April 18, 2013 at 1:47 am

The Container Store is awesome, huh? The boxes are from World Market along with a lot of the other jars and chalkboard labels 🙂 Good luck on your project! Email me an after pic… I’d love to see it!

  • Lauren April 18, 2013 at 1:51 am

Is the carrot container from world market as well? Store or online? I will definitely send you a pic!

    • missy April 18, 2013 at 4:07 am

sure is! so is the tomato one (holds our candy)… both are technically “compost” bins. haha!

  • Ashley April 19, 2013 at 12:16 am

love the pantry and the chalkboard idea! May i make a suggestion….? Have you thought about switching your second and third shelf? Putting cereals and healthy snacks on a lower shelf can encourage kiddos to be independent…

  • Brittany @ kitchen::candid April 22, 2013 at 9:23 pm

Oh I can’t wait until I have a pantry again. For now I’m dealing with storing our goods in cabinets and on the counter. I love your cute containers!! And I always clean when I’m in a funk!
