lip gloss

September 7, 2011

[color shown achieved using beets]

One of fall’s upcoming beauty trends is high gloss. Yes, even on lids as a finisher to shadow (you guessed it… the tutorial will be airing in the near future). I thought you might enjoy this recipe for natural lip gloss; one that’s not only super shiny but packed full of nutrients that’ll soften up your pucker! Mwah! xo

How long will the gloss last with fresh coloring? Can it go bad? Is this a dumb question?

    • missy September 17, 2011 at 2:47 pm

Definitely not a dumb question. I actually don’t have a definitive answer for it. Yes, it will go bad (not from the base ingredients but from the beets/berries). I’ve also used the fresh juice as a lip stain first and then apply the clear base on top before. Both work. Perhaps storing it in the fridge will make it last longer? If not, I’d say use it within a week.

That’s such a 180 from the matte trend this last spring. Crazy. 🙂 I love this tutorial though!

Matte is still in for fall too. Ironically, it’s polar opposites for makeup trends this fall (both glossy looks and matte).

This is such an awesome idea! I always wonder how much c**p we’re ingesting by licking our lips when we have synthetic lip balm on. Thanks Missy!

um. hello!!! you always post the coolest things! I love how organic you are! LOVE LOVE LOVE.

    • missy September 17, 2011 at 2:50 pm

happy to hear there are people out there that appreciate the more holistic approach to things. Don’t get me wrong. I love me some synthetic stuff but I do my darnedest to stay organic as much as possible. Thank you, Stephanie! xo

Thats so cool! Thanx for sharing! I remember seeing on a wall in forever 21 that the average girl consumes like several pounds of lipstick through out her lifetime and that really grossed me out, so this is awesome because I love my lipstick!

You have used this coconut oil before and I can’t seem to find it at any stores around here. Where did you get it?

    • missy September 17, 2011 at 2:53 pm

you can find it at any natural grocery store (i.e. whole foods). it can also be ordered online at http://www.spectrumorganics.com/?id=205

I buy my natural coconut oil at the grocery store. Just check to see if your grocery store handles it. I love this gloss recipe! I also do most of my cooking in coconut oil.

Mine is also the Spectrum Organic Coconut Oil but I got mine in a 14 fl oz jar at Walmart on the Baking Isle

    • Julie July 31, 2012 at 3:03 pm

but it is refined cause it is meant for cooking but it should still work the same right?

  • Julie July 31, 2012 at 3:07 pm

nm it says on the jar that it is also good for use on skin and hair as well 🙂 sorry for so many posts in a row 🙁

I was wondering if I can some how just use homegrown aloe? That should be ok right? I would just have to juice it?

  • Morven December 18, 2014 at 6:48 pm

Would this work with aloe Vera gel??

  • Navee April 4, 2015 at 10:15 pm

Hi, can I use alovera juice instead of alovera leaf juice?.
I learned another way of lip gloss to get pink lips
Almond oil & honey. I’m using this just to let everyone know. It might help you.
