DIY Rose Water

February 11, 2014

Everything’s coming up roses if you know how to capture the essence of the roses you get for Valentine’s Day. Rose water, my loves. Rose water. Not only does it smell girly; but it has amazing beauty benefits, too!

Known for it’s anti-inflammatory and astringent properties it’s highly sought after as one of the most gentle yet effective facial toners.

There are a lot of methods out there; but after playing around a bit, I came up with one I was happy with. Be sure to look for roses without chemicals or pesticides (or wash with a vegetable spray) for the best benefits.

DIY Rose Water

Remove the petals from one dozen rosesDivide the petals into two setsBlend half of the petals using a food processorIn a glass bowl, combine the blended petals with the whole petals.Add 1/2 cup distilled water and let rest in a sunny spot for at least 12 hoursHeat petals on low heat just until it reaches a simmerStrain the liquid using a muslin cloth or coffee filter into a glass jarLet rest in the sun to extract additional oilsRefrigerate and use as needed

Uses

Toner – dip a cotton pad in 1 teaspoons of rosewater to 1/8 cup of distilled water and apply to freshly cleaned face. As with any new skin care treatment, be sure to do a patch test before you start using it on regular basis.
Bath & Body – add rose water to your bath or a few drop to your body lotion for added softness.
