Born in the USA

It’s true, berry flag cakes are adorable. But did you know chocolate chip cookies are all American? Born in the USA, these scrumptious little treats were invented by the owner of the Toll House Inn (oh, that explains the name!) And there you have it — a little US history that you may or may not have wanted to know.

Regardless, two simple cookies sandwiching classic vanilla ice-cream is how we’re choosing to celebrate this year!

The trick to making the perfect cookie ice-cream sandwich is making sure they’re slightly undercooked, so when frozen, the cookies remain soft.

Oh and simple is better — that means no nuts, oats, or last year’s Halloween candy. It may be tempting, but simple soft cookies are the best bet here. Trust me on this one.

Happy Birthday, Lady Liberty!
