He’s Kinda Handsome

June 28, 2011

I thought I’d introduce you to this bad boy in case you decide to invite him to your Independence Day BBQ.

I know you probably read my recipe ingredients and say to yourself, “There she goes ranting blah blah about organic again…” But really. You listening this time? Because this is serious bee’s knees.

Choosing your meat is like choosing a mate. Do you just go out with any type of meat? Like the type that says, “Oops forgot my wallet. You got this?” Lame. Or do you want the hunk that serenades a poem he composed, while playing the guitar, and blowing you tender kisses?

That’s right. I thought so. And so it is with meat. Choose wisely, my dears. You can find him at most stores or even places like THIS, where I pick up mine.

This guy does NOT taste the same as regular ground chuck (just picture the kiss goodnight with the above versions of your date). The experience is entirely different. You know what I’m talking about.

Mister Grassfed O. Chuck doesn’t need doctoring up (like steak sauce n’stuff that’s called for in most homemade burgers). So if you decide to forgo, you’re eating at your own risk. I don’t know if he’ll be fly for a burger guy.

I’d recommend serving him alongside a tall bombshell, like THESE ladies.

If you’re going organic for taste, I get it. Another good option for good flavor is going in with a couple of other families and buying a cow to have butchered. Then you can have great FRESH meat. You’ll need an extra freezer for this but in the long run it will save you money and keep the flavor fantastic. I’m not an organic fanatic for lots of reasons, mainly because it’s a lot of propaganda created by people who have never been to a farm in their entire lives and don’t know anything about the true science of it all. But, there is a difference in the flavor of the meat between grain fed and grass fed beef- nothing wrong with having a preference of taste. :o)
    The recipe looks great though.

No shares on cows where I live & not sure I could convince my friends to kill our cow… Haha! Jk. However, my favorite farmer brings his to market fresh twice a week. It’s wonderful. Yes, there’s a major difference in taste. I tend to believe there’s a direct correlation between taste and health benefit. Thanks for your thoughts, Jamie. xo

For anyone who isn’t SOLD on organics, please do yourself a favor & look into “Food Inc.” the movie …. It may change your perspective on what we put into our bodies. I believe that with everything in life there is cause & effect. We all know that what is “right” for one person, isn’t necessarily “right” for another …. But know both sides before you draw a conclusion!! Thanks Missy for being an advocate & spreading the word!

Leave it to Care Bear to give it to us straight! haha! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Carrie. xo

Melissa I love your blog- I’ve been reading it periodically since I found out about it when I was on FB. If you are ever in FC we need to get together! I think we’d have a lot of fun hanging out… it seems from reading your blog that we are in the same stage of life and have some similar interests… I really love to cook great and fresh food and have parties and do fun things with my kids too 🙂 Anyways, I made these hamburgers tonight except used smoked gruyere cheese and they were A-MAZING! My hubby was one happy dude. Hope you are well!

EEEK! Anne, I would LOVE to see you! Dude, we’d totally be playing together all the time. The kidlets could play while we cooked like crazy ladies. So glad you enjoyed the burgers. And yes, to smoked gruyere… that combo with the sauteed mushrooms? Money. Love ya! xo
