Ding Dong! It’s Bark Box! (closed)

July 17, 2014

Friends, it’s me! LuLu. Go figure mom packed up my entire basket of toys and hair bows during the big move. Like any princess would do, I whimpered about it for awhile. But life hasn’t been all that ruff. I have my brother, Baxter, close by to bark around with. Tonka, the next door bulldog who may be mentioned on those lists with bedlington terriers, is usually our favorite target of choice. We have all sorts of fun together — sneaking into the garbage on hunts for dirty diapers, curling up on the couch together, even sharing the same water bowl. But at times, I think he forgets I’m his sister. All the bum sniffing really gets under my fur. All brothers have their annoying habits, I suppose.

Sorry. Where was I? Oh yes, my favorite toys went MIA. And then one day a ring came at the doggie door. A monthly puppy package subscription — a Bark Box addressed to little ‘ole me. For only $18 a month, it’s quite the pick-me-up.

If you think I’m letting my eyes and paws off my new apple cobbler bones, guess again. For if I do, surely my chow-hound brother will devour them all.

I smell full-sized, formaldehyde-free, mixed with organic chicken, apples and cinnamon, and bully stick a’la mode! What? I need a napkin to wipe my drool?

I might not be able to ‘play dead’ or skate around the block, but how many pups do you know that can smell a quality squeaker from a mile away? The soft fleece is an added luxury I certainly appreciate.

Keep my eye on the treats. Keep my eye on the treats. I better bury these bones in the backyard and fast, or else …

(crunch, munch, wag)

LuLu, swear on your doggy grave you won’t tell a single human I ate dessert before dinner — it’d be the dog house for me, for sure!

Last one to squeak the squeaker, is a dirty dog!

Word at the dog park is you can’t be trusted to eat just one. I should’ve known.  Next month, I’m taking my Bark Box to an undisclosed location. (sigh) I hope August comes soon!

In case you’ve forgotten, they don’t call me LuLu Lovebug for nothing — I spread love like fleas. And that means for you and your pooch too (the love, that is … without the fleas)!

So, Bark Box is giving away a 6 month subscription to one lucky dog!

Try clicking the first link you see for bark box (second picture) – a pop up giveaway window should come up! They’re working on making sure it pops up with each link! Good luck to you and your pup! 🙂

I would love to win this for my dog, Hufflepuff! The first trick I taught her was to sit and no matter how hard I try she can’t figure out how to roll over for the life of her 🙂

  • Ashley Peters July 17, 2014 at 10:49 am

The first trick I taught my 2 pups (Fredrik & Bently) was sit….boring I know! But a staple. They both are working on ringing the bell attached to the door to go outside but they haven’t mastered it yet! 🙂

  • Michelle July 17, 2014 at 12:06 pm

The first trick we taught our first pup was to sit, give paw, other paw and lay down with all hand signals. However we could never get her to roll over 😉

  • Crystal July 17, 2014 at 12:38 pm

The first trick I taught both my dogs was sit, and I have tried so hard for both of them to play dead but it’s a no go:)

  • Gigi lange July 17, 2014 at 12:48 pm

It was to shake, but it was my daughters. She did learn it.

  • Amanda July 17, 2014 at 1:46 pm

Lucas Herringbone’s first trick was to fist bump! … but the poor guy just can’t master rolling over { which seems to be a trend! }.

  • Ashley L July 17, 2014 at 2:34 pm

Bella learned to sit, shake and lay down before she was 3 months old. Her sister, Harlow, on the other hand could care less about the tricks and more about the treats. Playing dead is still a work in progress for both 😉

  • Kelli Gilmore July 17, 2014 at 2:36 pm

Our little Zoey would LOVE to get a barkbox! We rescued her 3 months ago and just can’t get enough of her! The first thing we taught her was to sit–closely followed by shake and high-five. But the one she doesn’t quite understand is roll-over!

  • Susan M Harpe July 17, 2014 at 3:02 pm

Blue learned to sit, shake and lay down pretty quickly after I got him. He loves to chase a ball but he has never mastered dropping the ball for me to throw again – he wants me to chase him with the ball in his mouth. But he is truly my heart and best friend. I couldn’t imagine life without him. He DESERVES a Bark Box!

  • Dyana July 17, 2014 at 3:05 pm

I taught my sweet Ellie Belly how to “tell” me it’s time to get up out of bed and get ready for work! She pulls or paws off the covers!! The funny thing? She knows only when to do it during the week! Pups are hilarious! They “know” their schedules! =)

  • Brittany July 17, 2014 at 3:17 pm

Lando’s first trick was sit. Now we are up to shake and high five! The one trick we can’t get past for the life of is to lay down on command. I think it’s because he gets too far from the food!

Ps. Your story narrations make me smile every time! Have you ever considered writing children’s books? You’d be amazing at it!

  • samantha July 17, 2014 at 3:29 pm

First thing I taught my Jersey was to sit. We haven’t taught her a lot of tricks, but she pretty much does whatever I want her to do. I think she understands english

  • Laci Rogina July 17, 2014 at 4:13 pm

I taught our dog Hurley to sit and shake. She mastered them very quickly. She still hasn’t learned how to roll over…and she is 7 years old!

  • Kim Hartung July 17, 2014 at 4:49 pm

I have a 9 mo. old yellow lab named Lilly who would LOVE to get a BarkBox subscription. The first trick Lilly learned was to potty on command. My son has been trying to teach her to roll over, but so far he has been unsuccessful.

  • Jamie July 17, 2014 at 5:02 pm

    AMAZING giveaway!
Other than the basic sit and lay, the first ‘trick’ we taught our dog was to pose in ‘downward dog’!!! She puts her head and paws down (almost in laying position), but then sticks her little booty up. Too cute.
We have not yet mastered the ‘drop it’ command. We have had a few Barbies that make trips to the Barbie Hospital each week!

  • suzanne July 17, 2014 at 5:58 pm

My husband thought our mini aussie shepherd to jump up and stand on the water fountain at the park…we still haven’t figured out how to teach her to stop barking when we want her to.

  • Donna July 17, 2014 at 7:17 pm

The first trick I taught my dog was to sit. My Boston Terrier has not quite mastered come when I call him, especially if he has his mind on something else.

  • elizabeth k July 17, 2014 at 7:49 pm

We have a 60lb 3 yr old golden retriever named Alex! First trick was “Sit”, followed closely by “Stay”. He has never mastered “Roll Over” – and is about 70% with “Nose Trick” (where we put the treat on his nose and he flips it up and catches it).

  • PJ July 17, 2014 at 7:53 pm

I taught my puppy how to come first and then he’s never quite mastered it. Maybe it’s his rebellious teen years!

  • Kristen July 17, 2014 at 9:34 pm

I have a lab (Luke) and a beagle (Peyton), the first trick they both learned was to “sit”. They are both still struggling with roll over… 🙂

  • Laura A July 17, 2014 at 10:01 pm

I love this!! As an animal lover and dog owner it’s always great to find new pet friendly items. I have two small chihuahuas. Hailey and Roxy. The first thing they first learned was play fetch! The one thing they can’t quite master is stay. They follow my son everywhere. Even to the bathroom. 🙂

  • Sarah F. July 17, 2014 at 10:10 pm

Our puppy Sadie’s first trick to master was “sit” and “High Five”. We can’t get her to roll over yet, but we are still working on it. She loves treats and the barkbox would be perfect for her.

  • Mae July 17, 2014 at 11:39 pm

I have two Chesapeake Bay Retreivers and they both learned how to sit first. They still have trouble coming when I call…..it’s not that they haven’t mastered this skill…they just sometimes would rather stay in the lake or outside.

  • linsey July 18, 2014 at 12:50 am

The first trick I taught my bff Shelby was to shake. I have tried and tried to get her to roll over.. with no success! 🙁

  • Anne July 18, 2014 at 1:11 am

The first trick we taught our beagle-lab mix other than sit was shake. He never could quite master roll over.

  • Kelsey Pickering July 18, 2014 at 2:03 am

The first trick our dog Fenway learned was sit and shortly after was “come.” He’s an Australian shepherd blue
Merle and he’s the absolute best. We never quite mastered the “roll over” trick, sometimes I still try it with him 5 1/2 years later to see if he’ll do it. Maybe he will learn when our soon to be first baby arrives in September. Maybe when he rolls over for the first time, Fenway will copy him 😉 Fenway would love to win this bark box!!!

  • Hannah July 18, 2014 at 1:48 pm

This is so cute! Truthfully, my two Papillons, Zoé and Macy don’t know a single trick. I feel so ashamed! They’re absolute divas.

  • Vanessa July 18, 2014 at 2:42 pm

Winston, our little Boston, is 2 weeks younger than my 4 year old so when we got him as a little puppy, I taught him what was his and what was the baby’s. As much as we’ve tried, he still gets excited and jumps up on people who come to visit.

  • Tina Smith July 18, 2014 at 2:47 pm

The first trick we taught out dog Indy (same breed as yours) was to sit. That was easy, but he has not quite mastered staying seated when giving him a treat! What a wonderful giveaway!

  • Sonja July 18, 2014 at 3:50 pm

We still have a puppy so his first trick was to sit. He also learned to sit outside the front door while the rest of the fam gets inside first. Getting him to continually walk on a leash however isn’t quite as easy for him to master!

  • Amy July 18, 2014 at 5:19 pm

“Sit” was the first trick Mosley, our little morkie puppy, learned. He can roll over, high five, and do several other tricks, but we cannot get him to learn “stay” for the life of us! Little guy is quite the escape artist, so we’ll keep working on it!

  • Kellie July 18, 2014 at 7:56 pm

Sit/high five was the first trick Miss Beasley, learned. She will not stay for any amount of treats you try to bribe her with. She loves to see if I brought her home a treat/suprise from shopping and will look through all the bags to see. She thanks you for this giveway opportunity 🙂

  • Courtney July 18, 2014 at 8:02 pm

The first trick I taught my sweet beagle Jeter (yes, like Derek.. one guess who picked that one!) was to sit. For some reason he thinks lay down, really means roll over!

  • Brigette July 19, 2014 at 4:43 am

The first trick I taught my chihuahua was to sit. I can’t seem to get him to stop barking excessively but he’s cute as a button so I won’t be to tough on him.

  • Laura C July 20, 2014 at 1:42 am

The first trick we taught to our dachshund Ruby was “sit.” She loves to steal socks when I am doing laundry. I am trying to teach her how to take them to the laundry room, but she is having difficulty seeing the fun in that.

  • Heidi Slovacek July 21, 2014 at 3:39 pm

I’ve been eyeing Bark Box for months now! Harry only masters the tricks he wants to learn. He has always loved his crate (so much that I had to build it into some pretty furniture to disguise it). His first trick was “crate”. At the sound of the word, he stops in his tracks and walks into his crate. The trick I’d love him to learn is any of the normal ones “sit” “roll”, etc. He learned them just long enough to pass puppy school but then promptly refused to do them. He has only stuck with “crate”! I’m glad he’s naturally a very well-behaved dog.

  • Whitney July 22, 2014 at 8:12 pm

The first trick I taught my dog was sit, the one trick she could never master was come… Which is one of the most important things a dog should learn. I have a Brittany Spaniel so we take her hunting and we have to keep her on a leash the entire time because she doesn’t come back!

  • Alison July 22, 2014 at 10:46 pm

Well, I recently adopted a 4 month old longhaired miniature dachshund (we named her Ruby) who is quite the handful!
I have NEVER owned or taken care of a dog before and let me tell you – this has been a learning experience. At this point, I’m super driven to have a well behaved dog so training has been daily! We are currently working on potty-training. Ruby nudges a set of bells with her nose and this signals us that she needs to go potty outside. Since I am no dog whisperer this seemed like a good plan! So far we have mastered step 1: nudge bell = treat. Ruby actually picked this up quite quickly (she’s a little treat monster). Any progress is good progress in my book! fingers crossed!!

Ruby still has not learned “come” or “come here.” I think she thinks “come here” means to run wildly around in circles and dash off in the opposite direction. Uhhh, we’re working on it. Haha!

I love the idea of bark box! I just signed up and would love to win (as would everyone! Haha!) At this point, for a new fur-baby mom, I can use all the help I can get!

    Thank you!

  • Jessie Mccloskey July 23, 2014 at 4:57 pm

The first trick we taught Riley was to sit. She never quite mastered rolling over. Haha

  • Carmen N July 24, 2014 at 12:52 am

Ours came already “trained” but I don’t think he’ll ever learn to listen when called.

  • Stephanie Boucher July 24, 2014 at 8:57 am

Cascade, my Border Collie/ Australian Sheppherd is 5 years old. We rescued her when she was 6 weeks old, and she has been my baby ever since 🙂 She first learned the normal sit then stay, Cascade is smart and she loves to be athletic and do tricks. She can do the normal lay down, come, wait, shake, high five, and hold a treat on her nose and catch it. She can speak or say please loud!!! soft, and she can also whisper, 🙂 which is like a small bark with no sound! Meaning her head moves, but no sound comes out! It is the cutest thing I have ever seen! She loves to catch the frisbee and she actually plays soccer! Which amazed my family and I, she blocks and kicks the ball like she knows exactly what she is doing. 🙂 I used to do agility with her and she loved weaving through the poles. She would actually just take off on her own all the time and weave them and come back to me! 🙂 her favorite thing to do is fetch tennis balls. Unfortunately, she tore her ACL about 3 years ago, and had to have surgery to replace it. Since then she is not allowed to be as active as she was. It’s heartbreaking to see her upset when I tell her no or to slow down. She doesn’t know her limit. One trick Cascade physically cannot do, is to roll over. Usually in bigger dogs their hips do not move like little dogs. They cannot as easily roll over and most times it is uncomfortable or painful to them to do so. That’s the case with both if my bigger dogs. It is painful for her to roll over.
Cascade is the most unique dog I have ever seen. She loves, and I mean absolutely loves fruit and vegetables of any kind! She will eat any fruit or vegetable over any type of meat or bone any day. Her favorites are strawberries and tomatoes. 🙂 she loves giving hugs and when you leave and come home she chews you out for not taking her with you. 🙂 We saved her, but we are the lucky ones and I don’t know how we got so lucky! 🙂

  • Brenda July 24, 2014 at 5:32 pm

Tricks? Haaaaa….I’m still trying to get my little devils to come when called!! Maybe for a Bark Box!!!

  • Michele N July 27, 2014 at 4:03 am

The 1st trick I taught my boy Fritz, was to “kiss mommy”! Now he will give a smooch and lean in for a hug! I am still working on teaching him to blow dry my hair!

  • Robin July 29, 2014 at 3:51 pm

Aw, I would love to win bark box for my little Finley 🙂 The first trick I taught him was to stay. When I put his food out he stays until I tell him the command good boy and then he runs to his bowl to eat. I’m still working on the roll over trick.
