Bangles for a Buck

June 8, 2011

You know what? I’ve learned something about jewelry. If it isn’t absolutely classic or sentimental, it should be rather inexpensive (especially when trendy). I’m a F21 jewelry junky. I could care less about the return policy (yeah they don’t accept returns) when it only cost me $1.50. Don’t believe me? Check out this lil’ number… HERE.

Case & point, today’s featured tutorial. Hope your flexin’ your cheeks for this one… Ready? For only $0.44 for 1/4 yard you get 2-3 bracelets guys! What!?! That’s like $0.22-$0.15 a bracelet! For that price you can wear them stacked up to your pits & call them sleeves!

Have at it, friendlies! xo

Love the braclets! I just purchased one similar this past weekend at my favorite botique, but will have to try some of these to add with it! If you don’t mind- what is the fabulous shade of red polish you are wearing?

Oooh. I really like this idea. I did it for my daughter out of some fabric, but I like this grownup version. Hmmmm. Like I need yet another project…

      You are so welcome!

I love these! Was it hard to make the denim bracelets since the material isn’t stretchy?

    • missy June 9, 2011 at 1:16 am

I used a denim jersey! cool, huh? I’m finding these are going with everything! Just like a pair of jeans…

So trendy and cheap! That is a necessary fb post! 🙂

Hey girl where did you find fabric that cheap? can’t seem to find it anywhere. I have been wanting to do this for the last month.

    • missy June 9, 2011 at 7:57 pm

Got it at Joann’s. You only need 1/4 yard so if it’s a 2.00 yard it’s .50 per color

  • Karissa Hunt June 9, 2011 at 9:21 pm

Thanks Girl I can’t wait to do it! I am so glad you did a video tutorial. I get how to do it now

I feel the same way about jewelry – I like it big, colorful and inexpensive (unless, of course it has sentiment behind it). Truth is, when I was fairly young I discovered I wasn’t the best at keeping track of jewelry, so I sort of abandoned it back then. Now I wear it more, but I still favor the cheap stuff – that way it’s not so bad when I lose it!

      Couldn’t agree with you more!

  • Maddison June 16, 2011 at 5:56 am

I really love these!! But i know if I make them they won’t turn out.

  • Karin June 22, 2011 at 4:26 pm

Love these! The girls and I just watched the tutorial and now they can’t wait to make them. Thanks!

What a cute idea. I made three different colors and posted them on my blog. Plus, I made sure to link back here, so others can make them too! Thanks for such a great DIY 🙂

This is so cute! What kind of fabric are you using in the tutorial (it looks like it’s pretty stretchy), and how long does each strip of fabric need to be?
    Thanks! 🙂

    • missy July 28, 2011 at 11:58 pm

It’s jersey knit! If you buy it in at least 42 in roll. Ask for a 1/4 yard for each color and you’ll have plenty!

  • karrie loughridge September 6, 2011 at 12:32 pm

love your colors! i have a question. I made some of these using a tut i found online. the solid color ones i make work out perfectly. but when i tried to use a patterned knit the color part tends to try to hide. any suggestions on how to keep the color part showing?
    thanks!

I have seen SO many tutorials on these and YOURS is the ONLY one I found that actually helped me step but step to figure it out. So thank you!

I just started making t-shirt scarves and you only use half of the tshirt. I was JUST looking at the top half thinking “What can I do with the left over?” Thanks for the idea of using it to make a matching braclette- you rock!

  • Casey December 7, 2011 at 9:02 pm

These are wonderful! Such a great tut! Do you think this would work with old T-shirts? I have some of my late Grandpa’s t-shirts and was hoping to find a project to use them in for all of the girls in the family… This would be so sweet.

  • adrianne December 15, 2011 at 11:04 am

Thanks for the tut! That was so awesome to have a video to follow. I tried this with an old tshirt and it wasn’t long enough with just the front and back 1″ strip. It will prob take an entire shirt tied together like the first step to make one long enough. I think I’m going to turn mine into a headband!!

  • Sierra September 16, 2012 at 9:35 pm

i was wondering the exact material length you used and if you found that cretin types of jersey worked better than others?

  • Regena December 27, 2012 at 5:03 pm

My 9 year old daughter is making these like crazy! We are using an old tie-dyed tshirt an the bracelets are turning out adorable. Do you have an email where I can send you a pic?

Love it. Thanks so much for sharing this. I do beadwork and I am going to try and incorporate beads into my designs for necklaces. Love it.
