ABC Baby Shower

July 11, 2011

Celebrating the soon-to-be birth of a baby is so very special. And welcoming Motherhood with your 1st child only happens once. I was so honored to throw this baby shower for my friend Autumn & her lil’ bun in the oven, Cooper.

The theme was all based around the giant ABC flash cards. I spotted them in THIS toy store when I was back home visiting family. Everything else built around it. A huge thank you to those I collaborated with to make it all come to life.

It was a good time had by all & most importantly the Mama to be. Her smile as she walked through the door was absolutely priceless!

You’re so sweet, Amy! Thank you! The food was kinda delish if I have say so… Excited to post the recipes later today! Stay tuned. 😉

What an awesome baby shower. You would make a great party planner – where’s the sign up for my next shin-dig?

    • missy July 11, 2011 at 3:32 pm

Dude, it’s way fun but extremely exhausting! Maybe once a year… And maybe if you lived closer. I’d LOVE to throw you a shin-dig. xo

  • Jessica July 11, 2011 at 1:22 pm

Wow it looks amazing! I love it all. 🙂 You are a Jack of all trades Missy! Very inspirational mama you are.

    • missy July 11, 2011 at 3:33 pm

Jessica, you’re too kind. IDK if I’d call me a “Jack” just yet… more like a work in progress. But the process of learning these trades is really fun! Thank you so very much. xo

  • Brooke Hostetler July 11, 2011 at 1:42 pm

This is probably one of my favorite showers I’ve seen. This is so cute!

    • missy July 11, 2011 at 3:34 pm

Awww, really? I’m blushing. Thanks, Brooke!

  • Kerri July 11, 2011 at 1:47 pm

Soooo cute Missy! You did a superb job! The food looks really yummy too.

    • missy July 11, 2011 at 3:34 pm

Kerri, I’ll be posting the recipes soon so come on back! 🙂

  • Maddison July 11, 2011 at 1:51 pm

This is the sweetest thing ever! You should really be a party planner!

    • missy July 11, 2011 at 3:36 pm

IDK it’s a lot of work and takes months for me to plan something like this. I need to work on being more efficient and less OCD before I could go big. haha! But maybe one day… Thank you so very much, sweetie.

  • Courtney July 11, 2011 at 3:00 pm

What a beautiful shower! Your such a good friend! And the food looks delicious!

    • missy July 11, 2011 at 3:37 pm

You’re so kind, Courtney. Thank you so very much. xo

  • Ali July 11, 2011 at 3:26 pm

So adorable. I went to the world’s least creative shower this weekend so seeing this was great.

    • missy July 11, 2011 at 3:38 pm

I’m sure the mama to be was still happy with it, hopefully. It’s all about baby, mama & well wishes. Maybe the hostess at your shower can mow a lawn like nobody’s bizniz. I don’t even know how to start my mower! ha! We all have different strengths…working on entertaining is one I’m hoping to improve. 😉 Thank you so much Ali. xo

  • Brandi July 11, 2011 at 5:12 pm

Oh my gosh Miss!!! It looks adorable!! I’m so sad I missed it in person. All the little details. I swear you thought of everything! Makes me feel like opening up shop and having a baby so you can throw me a shower. Haha. Everything you do is impeccable. I’m sure Autumn loved it. You are such a great friend. Amazing job!

    • missy July 12, 2011 at 1:07 am

Brandi!!! My heart was heavy without you there. Seriously. It helped having help from Cheryl, Alisa, Tena, & Sarah to make it all come together. Many hands make a load lighter. Dude, I’m ALL for you “opening up shop” again!!! Yes to one more bambino! EEK! Not getting my hopes up. We both know that’s bunkful (yes a new word I just invented, that YOU inspired. bunk=a load of crap. ful= full of it). One of these days we’ll be able to do something like this together. Sure do miss ya!

  • DREW HUMPHRIES July 11, 2011 at 5:47 pm

This is just so stinkin adorable!! You should definitely be a party planner!! Love all of the details!!

    • missy July 12, 2011 at 1:08 am

You’re too sweet, Miss Drew. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. It makes my heart tee hee.

  • Rachel July 11, 2011 at 5:49 pm

This is so charming! J’adore all the sweet details and, yep, the munchies look mighty tasty as well. This mama-to-be is one lucky lady! Well done, Missy! – love and sparkles 🙂

    • missy July 12, 2011 at 1:09 am

Thank you so very much! I was the lucky one who got to plan it! It was such a fun party knowing what the purpose was behind it. xo

  • Katie July 11, 2011 at 6:52 pm

Perfect <3 Well done! I imagine your friend felt so blessed! I love how you used flash cards as a jumping off point for such a wonderful and creative shower. Kind of makes me want to tear apart little man's nursery and go with the vintage abc theme! But… since he is almost one I probably won't! But, SO precious!

    • missy July 12, 2011 at 1:11 am

No tearing apart the nursery, you silly goober. Haha! You’re hilarious. My mom taught me to plan things that way (home decor, parties, you name it)… choose one thing and then build everything else around it. It’s amazing how something can come together with this principle.

  • Melissa July 11, 2011 at 8:07 pm

What a beautiful baby shower, I love the theme. So perfect

    • missy July 12, 2011 at 1:11 am

      Awww, shucks. Thanks, Meliss.

  • Anna July 11, 2011 at 9:12 pm

This looks so unbelievably amazing – how long did it take to set everything up? So glad you’re posting the recipes, I’d love to try some!

    • missy July 12, 2011 at 1:13 am

Do you REALLY want me to answer this? haha. Actually a lot longer than my son’s 1st birthday. I started planning this 2 months ago and have worked on it slowly. Actually setting up? I started Wed and the party was Saturday… Haha. That gives you a sneak peak into how much of a perfectionist I am… Scary? Uh. Slightly. haha! Didn’t get around to posting the recipes but I promise they ARE coming. 😉

  • Anne July 11, 2011 at 9:29 pm

    VERY cute!!

    • missy July 12, 2011 at 1:13 am

      Thank you VERY much!!

  • laura July 13, 2011 at 1:31 pm

We had lots of fun and I know that Autumn was thrilled! Kate’s favorite was the candy apples. One at the shower and “one for the road” as she said.

    • missy July 18, 2011 at 6:33 pm

And it was so special to have you both there! kate’s hug before saying goodbye filled me up until the next time I get to see you two! love you! xo

  • VKH July 13, 2011 at 5:06 pm

  • ashley November 17, 2011 at 10:54 pm

I love this! I may use this theme for the shower I’m throwing my sister. Where did you get the invatations?

  • Ryan February 12, 2012 at 1:49 pm

This is adorable! How did you do the cover to put the mad libs into a book?

    • missy February 13, 2012 at 1:09 pm

It’s actually cardboard that’s painted with chalkboard paint and tied with twine! 🙂

  • meg April 17, 2012 at 3:53 am

Hi! Love everything you’ve done here! I really like the Mad Libs idea. Did guests fill the card out at the shower? I saw that you responded to someone else that you sprayed cardboard with chalkboard paint for the cover. Any other tips you can share? I’d like to use this idea for a couples wedding shower but not sure how to go about this. I assume you gave the book of mad libs after to her? Or was it filled out prior? Thanks so very much for you help, I really appreciate it!!!

  • Stefanie April 17, 2012 at 6:18 am

Where did you get the mini chalkboards?
